Mattress Disposal & Recycling
Same-day mattress and box spring pickup, taken to a California-certified recycler rather than a landfill.
The Junkiez provides same-day mattress disposal & recycling across Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Same-day mattress and box spring pickup, taken to a California-certified recycler rather than a landfill.
Getting rid of a mattress in Southern California is deliberately hard. You cannot put it in a bin, most landfills will not accept it loose, and city bulky-item pickup often means waiting two to three weeks with the thing sitting in your driveway. We pick it up the same day, carry it down whatever stairs are involved, and deliver it to a recycler under the state programme.
What we take
- Mattresses — twin, full, queen, king, California king
- Box springs and foundations
- Memory foam, latex and hybrid mattresses
- Crib and toddler mattresses
- Futon mattresses and sofa-bed inserts
- Adjustable bed bases and bed frames
- Mattress toppers and protectors
Why you cannot just throw it away
California banned mattresses from most landfill disposal streams and created the Mattress Recycling Council programme, funded by a recycling fee collected at the point of sale. Roughly 75% of a mattress by weight — steel springs, polyurethane foam, cotton fibre and timber — is genuinely recoverable. Dumping one illegally in LA County carries fines that start in the hundreds and climb fast.
Bed bugs and infested mattresses
Tell us up front if there is any suspicion of bed bugs. We are not squeamish about it, but an infested mattress has to be wrapped in sealed plastic before it leaves the room, and it goes to disposal rather than recycling. Handling it wrong risks carrying the problem into the truck and then into the next customer’s home, so we take this seriously.
Compared with waiting for the city
Most LA-area municipalities offer a limited number of free bulky-item pickups per year, and they genuinely are worth using if you are not in a hurry. The trade-offs are the wait, the requirement to leave the item at the kerb, and the fact that it is landfilled rather than recycled. We exist for when those trade-offs do not work — a move-out deadline, a tenant turnover, or an HOA that will fine you for kerbside storage.
