Electronics & E-Waste Recycling in San Diego County

TVs, monitors, computers and e-waste collected and taken to a California-approved recycler, with data-bearing drives handled securely.

The Junkiez provides same-day electronics & e-waste recycling in San Diego County. TVs, monitors, computers and e-waste collected and taken to a California-approved recycler, with data-bearing drives handled securely.

Electronic waste is classified as hazardous waste in California. It is illegal to put a television or monitor in your household bin, and the CRT tubes in older sets contain several pounds of leaded glass each. We are set up to collect e-waste in volume and deliver it to an approved collection and recycling facility, which matters more than it sounds if you are an office clearing out forty workstations.

Electronics in San Diego County

San Diego County runs from the coast to genuine backcountry, and the work changes completely across that distance. Coastal neighbourhoods are tight-lot, rental-heavy and parking-constrained. The older urban core has 1920s bungalows with basements and canyon lots with long carries. Inland — Poway, Escondido, El Cajon, Santee — it is half-acre lots, outbuildings and yards that generate green waste at volumes the coast never sees. Camp Pendleton and the Navy add a constant PCS-driven move-out cycle on top.

We are used to military move-out deadlines and can work backwards from a hard report date. Canyon-adjacent properties across the county mean long carries we plan crew around. Miramar, Otay and Sycamore landfills serve the city, South Bay and East County respectively, and green waste is kept as a separate composting load under California organics rules. The inland and backcountry fringes have enforced CAL FIRE defensible-space requirements.

What we take

  • Televisions — flat screen, plasma, projection and CRT
  • Computer monitors, desktops, laptops and tablets
  • Printers, scanners, copiers and fax machines
  • Servers, switches, routers and networking gear
  • Stereo equipment, speakers and receivers
  • Game consoles, DVD players and set-top boxes
  • Phones, cables, keyboards and peripherals
  • UPS units and batteries

It is hazardous waste, legally speaking

Under California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Act, CRTs and most display devices are universal waste and cannot go to landfill. You already paid an eWaste recycling fee when you bought the device. We deliver to an approved facility so the leaded glass, mercury backlights and circuit-board metals are handled under that programme rather than crushed into a landfill cell.

Frequently asked questions

Can I throw a TV in the trash in California?

No. Televisions and monitors are classified as universal hazardous waste and are banned from household disposal.

What happens to my data?

We can remove drives on site and hand them to you, or route equipment to a recycler that issues a certificate of data destruction.

Do you take old CRT televisions?

Yes. Those are the ones most haulers refuse, because of the leaded glass. We take them.

What customers say

My mother had let things get out of hand and I was dreading the whole process. They came in an unmarked truck, never made a single comment, and asked before removing anything that was not obviously rubbish. Took four days and they never once rushed her.

Verified customer Los Angeles

I called about one old fridge and they told me my utility would collect it free and pay me for it. They talked themselves out of a job. When I needed a full garage cleared two months later I did not call anyone else.

Anh L. Irvine

Six-person spa behind a narrow side gate. Two other companies looked at it and passed. These guys drained it, cut it into sections and had the patio swept by 4pm. The price they quoted on arrival was the price I paid.
