Carpet, pad, tack strip, tile and laminate pulled up and hauled off, leaving subfloor ready for the new install. Flooring installers frequently charge a premium to remove what is already there, and often will not take it away at all. Pulling carpet is straightforward work but it is dirty, bulky and produces a surprising volume of waste — a single room of carpet and pad fills more truck space than the furniture that was standing on it. We pull it, pull the tack strip, and take the lot. ### What we take - Carpet and carpet pad - Tack strip, staples and transition strips - Vinyl, linoleum and sheet flooring - Laminate and engineered wood - Ceramic, porcelain and stone tile - Area rugs and runners - Subfloor and underlayment where needed ### What "ready for install" means We pull the carpet and pad, remove tack strip, and scrape staples so the subfloor is clean. That is the state most installers require before they will start. If they have given you a specific prep spec, send it over and we will work to it. ### Tile is a different job Carpet peels up. Tile has to be broken out, which is loud, dusty and slower, and thinset mortar bonded to a concrete slab is genuinely hard work. It is priced accordingly, and we will be straight with you about the difference rather than quoting it like carpet. ### Pre-1980 flooring needs a check Vinyl floor tile and the black mastic under it were common asbestos-containing materials before 1980, and 9×9 inch tiles in particular are a classic indicator. If your building predates 1980 and you are pulling resilient flooring, get it tested first. Positive material needs a licensed abatement contractor, not us. ### Getting a price Free on-site quote. You only pay if you say go. We quote on site before anything is loaded, and the number does not change afterwards. Stairs, long carries, disassembly and heavy items are all included. Text a photo to 323-547-5879 and we can usually give you a number within a few minutes. ## Frequently asked questions **Do you remove the tack strip and staples?** Yes — the subfloor is left clean and ready for the new install. **Can you take out tile flooring?** Yes, though tile is broken out rather than pulled and is priced separately from carpet. **Is old vinyl flooring safe to remove?** If the building predates 1980, get it tested first — vinyl tile and black mastic were common asbestos-containing materials.
